1 - Philosophy
A philosopher once said — A weak body is a weak mind. True enough. An overweight person who doesn’t have the mental capacity to discipline himself to stay fit does not have the ability to teach others the power of discipline. If a person does not have the kind of discipline to control himself then he would never have the power to control situations. A person who cannot control situations cannot control his destiny. A person who cannot control his destiny cannot become a leader.
A decision has to be made.
February of 2004, at 5′5 1/4” in height I was 230lbs with 26% body fat. My terrible physical state and pathetic level of discipline pushed me to hit the gym at Mandarin Hotel and workout like crazy. I read tons of fitness and bodybuilding books followed a super strict diet and 8 weeks after I was down to 178lbs with 15.7% body fat.
That was so cool that I felt its excellence in every merit. I continued going to the gym from then on though not as crazy as I used to but still maintained my weight and body fat percentage until, I repeat until a couple of months ago.
My gym visits went down to zero and due to enormous amount of work we were motivated with a series of teambuilding activities in the form of parties and food treats every now and then.
Worst, starting on the last week of October, 6 parties in the next two weeks with an unlimited amount of beer and food to feast suddenly morphed my body to undesirable proportions.
Having lost the rhythm of bodybuilding, I summoned the power of the internet by reading through the inspirational stories of people specifically Sylvester Stallone’s outstanding discipline in his journey of sculpting his body as well as my ultimate inspiration — Arnold Schwarzenegger — the guy featured in my magazine collection dubbed as “As Strong as the Oak”.
This gave me the mental strength and determination back to push myself once and for all to the lowest body fat percentage I could get myself into and maintain it for life.
I have decided to blog my journey to continously motivate me as well as others.
