Mountain Biking to Fitness

For the last few months I was thinking of buying a mountain bike for my exercise. Given my work schedule and almost non-existent amount of free time I have, it seems impossible for me to utilize such a machine.

A week ago on the 18th of November my manager just blurted out — “You need to exercise”. Whoaah! Was I fat already having to sit all day staring at the monitor and allow all my calorie intake turn into fats?

That stinging and ear reverberating remark clinched my decision. The next day I went to every store looking for a bike of my preference, finance healthy and above all have a sense of relationship which I could call my buddy similar to a puppy walking with you in the morning, giving you a good fat burning exercise. Walking? Does it really burn? Hmmm. Never mind…

He just ate what?

Why are people fat? Why are some people thin? There are a lot of information here to make us knowledgeable on Nutrition and how to stay health and lean. But how about observing the people around you?

It was funny because I started to look around me whenever I dine in restaurants or fast food chains. Much to my surprise I could see the difference in what people ordered and the kind of physical attributes they possess.

Less Sleep = More Fat

My friend and I recently discussed weight loss and the reason why I have been getting heavier despite keeping my carbohydrate and fat intake low.

He told me that not getting enough sleep everyday keeps our metabolism rate slower. Aside from that he mentioned that the body was adjusting because of our survival’s instincts. He said the body stores more fat to keep us safe because of lack of sleep and tiredness.

That said, I believe that the more sleep we have the more energy we have for the day. So instead of sitting on our desk feeling tired and weak we are able to move faster and thus burn more calories.

When is the Best Time to Eat?

We have already discussed the importance of eating if we want to build and grow our muscles. The question we would like to think about is when is the best time to eat?

The best time to eat is during times when our body would optimally be able to absorb these nutrients. This is usually during, immediately and long after workout activities.

We are going to examine each of the times food is optimally absorbed by the body.

Food consumption outside these hours is not a good advice since the body would not able to absorb nutrients effectively and as such will store them as fat.

Car Muscle Push

Yesterday when my sister and I was about to leave the mall; the car would not start for some reason. After trying and figuring out what to do we decided to park it in a safe place 600 meters away from where we were.

What we did was my sister drove the wheel while I pushed the car. It was heavy given the angle and the humps along the way.

As I was pushing the car I realized how handy my gym workouts have been. My maximum 225lb bench press was used.

Its good to be fit and it sure comes handy during emergency situations.

Thin or Healthy? Thin and Weak?

There are two posts that caught my attention recently. The first one is from lifehut.org that discuss on being healthy and thin. The second one is from veggiechic.com that talks about her fasting journey

Lifehut argue that people tend to focus so much on being thin without really thinking of being healthy. This is an interesting point since people sometimes sacrifice health for the purpose of being thin and as such people label them to be healthy.

Veggie Chic on the other hand talks about her journey on fasting and argues about a lot of health benefits that go with it. Hmmm. This I am not really sure about.

Lose 35 lbs in 30 days: Pre-Prep

This is a pre-preparation for my 30 day goal. I did not want to start with any program, or formal attack on how to go about it. My first priority is getting my body to feel the task ahead.

My strategy on this is a workout at Mandarin Hotel Health Club. During that day on January 28, 2006 I trained all of my body parts using light weight equipment doing more repetitions than I normally do of 15 to 20 per exercise. For cardio I did 4 rounds of 3 minutes each on the punching bag and a 5 km run at the treadmill.

Throughout the day my food intake was a high protein meal of meat, liver and chicken white meat. The only thing bad about that was the way it was cooked - Barbeque. But this will improve as I go along. During night time, my dinner was a cup of oatmeal, less-fat cereals and tuna with Omega 3 oil.

This is not a high caliber diet plan but just enough to prepare me mentally and emotionally for the battle that lie ahead.

My starting stats

My weight: 204 lbs.
Body fat: 24.8
